Indigitize 2026 GenerationAI Community of Practice

Indigitize educators gathered virtually on February 7 to begin their spring 2026 Generation AI Community of Practice (CoP). This CoP is comprised of 67 incredible educators from different schools across turtle island and will focus on driving their practice through

Indigitize CoP

guiding questions that explore the intersections of Indigenous knowledge and AI. They will examine the foundations of Indigenous communities, histories, and values to inform teaching, consider how AI can enhance engagement and curiosity in Indigenous students, and reflect on how frameworks like Indigenous Genius by Design (IGbD) support meaningful integration of AI learning. Their work may take shape through designing a unit, developing an AI policy, or planning a family night that centers Indigenous perspectives and innovative learning experiences.

The AI Innovator Challenge Deadline is March 13

AI INNOVATOR STUDIO

The AI Innovator Challenge is an opportunity for student teams to design AI-powered solutions that address a problem or concern in their community, align to a UN Sustainable Development Goal, and

demonstrate the ethical, safe, and responsible use of AI. Top teams will be showcased online, with finalists presenting in-person at ISTELive. Students are able to participate in the Challenge with the support of a teacher sponsor without having completed Studio lessons. The student team submission deadline is March 13, 2026. Get the details here.

2025 Computer Science Teacher Landscape Report

CSTA, Kapor Foundation, and the Alliance for Interdisciplinary Innovation in Computing Education (AiiCE) share national insights from nearly 3,000 PK–12 CS teachers across the United States in the 2025 Computer Science Teacher Landscape Report.

This report examines whether educators are prepared to teach a reimagined vision of computer science that includes AI, ethics, and human-centered design. Findings reveal a community of teachers who are deeply committed to their students yet constrained by limited preparation, heavy workloads, time restrictions, and inconsistent support. Understanding these realities is essential to preparing every student for a world powered by computing. Learn more and download the report at landscape.csteachers.org.

ISTE+ASCD Hosts GenerationAI AI Leadership Summit

Educators collaborating at the AI Leadership Summit

The AI Leadership Summit, hosted by ISTE+ASCD on January 17–18, 2026 in San Diego, brought together an extraordinary group of district and school leaders for two days of deep learning, collaboration, and forward-thinking planning around artificial intelligence in education. Through dynamic plenaries, high-impact breakout sessions, and structured district team time, participants explored AI literacy, assessment, policy development, classroom integration, and evaluation of AI-powered tools—all grounded in the Transformational Learning Principles and centered on student learning.

What made the event exceptional was the caliber of both the leaders and the facilitators: current classroom teachers, researchers, former district administrators, and industry experts who connected AI to real-world skills and long-term system change. Teams stayed engaged through the final session, asked thoughtful questions, and committed to actionable next steps for their districts.

"The thoughtful approach to the conference was evident in every piece - the balanced learning and collaboration and teamwork time, the networking opportunities, and the extended learning materials were amazing. I left feeling inspired and excited to do this work." Sondra Whalen, Vernon Verona Sherrill Central School District

The summit reinforced a powerful truth: when educational leaders approach AI with intention, collaboration, and a clear focus on students, meaningful transformation is possible.

ICYMI: AI Innovator Studio Lessons Are Here!

Screenshot 2025-12-09 at 9.20.55 PM

The AI Innovator Studio is more than a set of lessons—it’s a space for educators and students to learn how to design with AI, not just about it. The Studio invites learners to explore how artificial intelligence can support creativity, problem-solving, and innovation with purpose.

Rather than focusing on step-by-step technical instruction or programming skills, the Studio emphasizes the design process itself—how ideas take shape, evolve, and come to life when AI becomes part of the toolkit. Each lesson opens a pathway for students to imagine, test, and reflect on how AI can amplify human potential while keeping ethics, empathy, and inclusion at the center.

For educators, the Studio provides ready-to-use lessons, flexible models, and a clear design framework that can be used in classrooms, clubs, or innovation spaces. Each lesson stands on its own or can connect to others in a progression, allowing facilitators to meet students where they are—whether they’re new to AI or ready to take on advanced builds.

At its core, the Studio is built on a simple belief: When students see themselves as designers, innovators, and responsible creators,
they begin to shape the future—not just adapt to it. Learn more and download the free lessons!

School Leader AI Incubator Program

Playlab is launching a tuition-free, 24-month R&D incubator for 20 teams of school leaders ready to build innovative, AI-integrated learning environments that center student agency. This isn't PD—it's a co-build partnership with direct access to engineers, expert guidance from leading organizations in pro-social AI and school design, quarterly in-person intensives, and a cohort of peers equally committed to moving beyond the status quo. Applications close on February 27! Apply now!
