What We're Hearing: Insights from the Field about AI-Powered EdTech

We're creating a practical framework to help educators evaluate AI-powered education technology. Rather than starting from scratch, we're building on our successful Teacher Ready platform that educators already know and trust.

With so many AI frameworks already out there, our framework stands out because:

  • It's built with direct educator input at every stage.
  • It's backed by solid research (literature reviews and landscape analyses).
  • It's properly validated through formal testing.
  • It's immediately useful through both Teacher Ready (for teachers) and the ISTE Seal (for technology providers).

Our first phase is an infographic summarizing initial findings from educators around four key areas: impact on learning, impact on teaching, impact on edtech design,

and implementation strategy.

Using AI to Close Learning Gaps

Contributed by Dr. Elvira Salazar, Latinos for Education

May 3rd marked the culmination of the teacher and education leader nine-month fellowships convened by Latinos for Education. From coast to coast over 75 fellows participated in a final showcase to share

their problem of practice at the intersection of education and AI. In Texas, one high school science teacher, Carolina, engaged in a cycle of inquiry to increase student engagement in her physics classroom. She was particularly interested in increasing scaffolds to make science more accessible for her multilingual and special education students. She saw a 95% increase in her student performance after incorporating the use of AI to develop guides for her students. The guides provided students with just-in-time support during labs and analytical tasks without disrupting classroom workflows. One of Carolina's students shared, “For the first time, I didn't feel lost in science class. The guides made me confident."

This short video shows education leaders in Texas hosting a playground session where attendees could interact and ask questions about the AI-powered tools they built using Playlab technology.
