ISTE+ASCD AI Innovator Studio + Challenge:

ISTE+ASCD has launched the AI Innovator Studio + Challenge! This year-long program for high school students focused on strengthening AI literacy and design is an expansion of the previous AI Innovator Challenge.

The AI Innovator Studio +

Challenge empowers educators and students to explore AI as a tool for solving real problems, while building the skills needed for ethical, safe, and inclusive innovation. Through the support of Lenovo, Microsoft, and Intel, the program advances the UN Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education and Reduced Inequalities by helping schools foster digital inclusion and responsible digital citizenship. It also builds on the ISTE Student Standards and Digital Citizenship Competencies, ensuring students become empowered learners, innovative designers, creative communicators, and global collaborators.

Join us on Friday, October 24 at 10:00 AM ET to learn about the next steps in creating your AI Studio. Register today!

No-Cost Online Modules: The National Education Association (NEA) has released new online modules being offered at no cost to educators.

Foundations and Applications of AI explores the foundational concepts of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential educational applications. Educators will learn to integrate AI tools effectively and ethically into teaching, learning, and administrative processes while fostering AI literacy among students.

Human-Centered Approaches to AI is about the vital role educators play in the age of AI. While technology is changing fast, the heart of teaching is still human. Teaching is built on connection, collaboration, and empathy. Educators help decide how AI is used, from shaping school policies to making day-to-day classroom choices, so it stays ethical, fair, and focused on students.

Safe and Ethical Use of AI dives beyond the surface of AI in education by equipping educators with the critical knowledge and practical strategies to navigate this evolving landscape.

Evidence-Based AI for Learning explores key principles for adopting artificial intelligence (AI) in education with a focus on evidence-based adoption practices, valid research, and attention to diverse and vulnerable learner needs. The emphasis is on the importance of rigorous research, ongoing evaluation, and educator involvement to ensure that AI adoption in education is beneficial, equitable, and aligned with the needs of all learners.

Promoting AI Equity and Access will examine how the digital divide significantly impacts student success, especially for underserved groups. Artificial intelligence has the power to both worsen and lessen these inequalities, making careful development, use, and evaluation essential. Educators will explore how to ensure fair access to AI, protect student data, and recognize bias in AI systems. This module also prepares educators to develop and advocate for rules that promote human-centered, inclusive, and culturally relevant AI in education. The goal is for all students to benefit from AI without increasing existing disadvantages.

Enhancing Educator Practice with AI explores how educators can effectively leverage AI to enhance their professional practice, from classroom instruction to administrative tasks. Participants will build AI literacy, navigate ethical considerations, and apply practical strategies for integrating AI tools into their work. By the end of the course, educators will be equipped to use AI responsibly and advocate for its equitable and practical implementation in their educational settings.

Student-Centered AI Literacy equips educators with the knowledge and strategies to teach artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and its impact on the modern world. Participants will explore ways to integrate AI across subjects, promote ethical digital citizenship, and prepare students for an AI-driven future. By the end of the course, educators will be able to design student-centered learning experiences that foster critical thinking, responsible technology use, and meaningful engagement with AI tools.

Visit the NEA Professional Excellence Portal to register for the modules.

ISTE+ASCD Kicks Off New Cohort of AI Community of Practice

At the end of September, ISTE+ASCD kicked off the second Community of Practice in Charlotte for two transformational days together. This cohort of 88 educators represent 34 U.S. states and territories. The Community of Practice model represents the heart of GenerationAI, bringing educators together for sustained, deep engagement as they navigate the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence in education.

As one of the educators shared afterwards, “With the knowledge that I gained at the convening, it has given me the courage to explore other opportunities…My mind has shifted so much with the knowledge of AI and how it can enhance my teaching to support student learning.”

Over the coming months, these teacher, building, and district leader cohorts will collaborate through monthly virtual sessions to build their AI literacy, explore both opportunities and challenges, and develop practical solutions to their own real problems of practice. Most importantly, they'll amplify educator voices in shaping how AI is thoughtfully integrated into teaching and learning.
